Statement by His Majesty the King in response to the attacks in Brussels

This morning, our neighbour Belgium was hit by violent attacks which claimed the lives of many innocent people. I have expressed my condolences to King Philippe. The Netherlands’ thoughts and sympathies are with those affected and with the people of Brussels, who are now living in an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty. Europe is once again being put to the test. What’s needed now is that we show our collective strength and uphold the values of freedom and solidarity.
