King to address European Parliament
His Majesty King Willem-Alexander will address a plenary session of the European Parliament in Brussels on Wednesday afternoon 25 May in connection with the Netherlands Presidency of the European Union. Minister of Foreign Affairs Bert Koenders will be present for the occasion.
Before his speech the King will speak first with European Parliament President Martin Schulz and then with the chairs of the Parliament’s political groups. After his speech the King will meet with Dutch MEPs. His visit to Brussels will close with a meeting at the Dutch Permanent Representation to the European Union with its staff and with staff members of the Dutch embassy to Belgium.
During the first half of 2016, the Netherlands is the holder of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. It is working for an EU that focuses on essential issues, like migration, counterterrorism and promoting growth and job creation.
