State visit by the President of the Argentine Republic
At the invitation of foreign minister Bert Koenders, President Mauricio Macri of the Argentine Republic will visit the Netherlands in the last week of March 2017. He will be joined by his wife, Juliana Awada. Mr Koenders issued the invitation on behalf of His Majesty King Willem-Alexander in July 2016 during a visit by Mr Koenders to Argentina.
The Netherlands and Argentina work closely together on many international political issues. They are also united on multilateral themes including promotion of the international legal order and human rights conventions, and on culture and sustainable economic development.
Argentina is the world’s 21st largest economy and a member of the G20, whose presidency it will hold in 2018. Argentina’s international outlook offers scope for trade and investment, notably in the water, logistics and agribusiness sectors. In this connection, agriculture minister Martijn van Dam paid a working visit to Argentina this past September. The Netherlands is one of Argentina’s main investors and trading partners. The state visit will also provide an opportunity to further strengthen educational and scientific ties.
