King to attend Volvo Ocean Race awards dinner
On Saturday 30 June, His Majesty King Willem-Alexander will attend the Volvo Ocean Race awards dinner at the World Forum The Hague, the final event of the 2017-2018 edition. As part of the ceremonies, His Royal Highness Prince Carl Philip of Sweden will present the prizes to the winners. His Majesty King Juan Carlos of Spain will also be attending.
Seven international teams took part in the round-the-world race, including the Dutch teams Brunel and AkzoNobel. The race was won by China’s DongFeng Race Team, with Dutch sailor Carolijn Brouwer on board. Team Brunel came in third, followed by Team AkzoNobel in fourth place. The race started in Alicante in October last year. After 45,000 nautical miles, the boats crossed the finish line in Scheveningen harbour on Sunday 24 June 2018.
