Official visit by the Emir of Qatar
The Emir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, will pay an official visit to the Netherlands on Monday 24 June. He will be accompanied by his wife, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad Al Thani. The Emir will be officially received by His Majesty the King and Her Majesty Queen Máxima. There will also be meetings with Prime Minister Mark Rutte and the presidents of the House of Representatives and the Senate. The main purpose of the visit is to further strengthen the broad relations between the Netherlands and Qatar. In the morning a round table CEO discussion will be held in parallel with the official visit. The discussion will cover a range of areas, including the water, sustainable energy, food and maritime sectors.
The bilateral relationship between the Netherlands and Qatar has developed significantly in recent years. Qatar is an important partner for the Netherlands in the area of stability and security. The two countries work together on promoting peace and strengthening the international legal order. They also collaborate in the areas of sustainable energy, growing food sustainably for domestic use and the digitalisation of society. In addition, Qatar plays a major role in Dutch and European energy security, and will continue to do so in the years ahead.
