Queen Máxima was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 17 May 1971 as Máxima Zorreguieta.
She is the daughter of Jorge Horacio Zorreguieta and Maria del Carmen Cerruti de Zorreguieta. Queen Máxima has two brothers, one sister and three half-sisters. She grew up in Buenos Aires.
